Three physically challenged students secure more than 90 per cent

New Delhi, May 23 (UNI) The introduction of a "cool off" period in this year's Class X and XII Board exams by the CBSE has resulted in a positive impact on merit in this year's results for Class XII which saw, for the first time in CBSE's history, three physically-challenged students securing more than 90 per cent marks.

This year's CBSE class XII results saw three physically challenged students - Astha Gupta from Laxman Public School in Delhi, Nirmal Sharda from Tagore Public school from Jaipur and visually-challenged Manju B from Vedvyasa Vidyalayam in Calicut in Karala - secure more than 90 per cent marks, CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguly told reporters here.

''The performance of these students is specially remarkable as it comes despite their disabilities. It goes to prove that physical deformity cannot be a bottleneck in the path to success,'' Dr Ganguly said.

A total of 939 physically-challenged students appeared for the class XII CBSE exam this year.
