Strike by medicos continues on day 7
Kanpur, May 23 (UNI) The strike by medicos of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarathi Memorial Medical College today received a moral support from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) students, who took out a cycle-rally in their support.
Meanwhile, the medicos continued their strike on the seventh day against reservation proposal in institutions of higher education.
The students claimed the urban population observed blackout for 20 minutes last night against the proposed reservation.
Striking doctors ignored ESMA imposed by the state government and appealed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to consider their anti-quota demands.
Meanwhile, the college administration claimed the situation was improving as senior doctors had started attending OPD servces. As the leave of doctors were cancelled, the situation would fully improve within a few days, they claimed.
However, the striking doctors also attended serious patients on humanitarian grounds.
The Forum of Indians against Reservation (FIR), formed by IIT-K students, has been welcomed by its alumni from abroad.
''Reservation on paper would neither help the backwards nor the general category students till its impact is reviewed,'' they said.
