Simran denies being paid for campaigning for AIADMK
Chennai, May 23 (UNI) Kollywood's glamour queen Simran, who donned the role of a politician with little success in the recently-held Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, today denied reports that she had received a huge sum of money to campaign for the AIADMK.
Describing the rumour as nonsense, she told reporters at a commercial launch function here, 'I just want to set the record right. The reports are not true.' The actor, who caught her fans and politicians off-guard by suddenly joining the AIADMK in the presence of party supremo Ms Jayalalithaa in the run up to the May 8 elections, actively canvassed votes for party candidates all over the state.
Reacting to the AIADMK's defeat in the elections, Simran said the people had the right to choose what was best for them. ''It is for them to judge and decide,'' she said.
The actor, who captivated Tamil movie fans with her gyrating dances, was yet to decide on the next step in her political career.
''I am not a politician and I don't know what is going to be my next step in politics. I face life as it comes,'' she said.
Stating that campaigning for a party was different from being active in politics, Simran said she was in the AIADMK as she admired Ms Jayalalithaa for her courage.
However, she had not taken any decision on campaigning for the party in the coming local body elections in the state, she added.
To a question, the actor said she had no regrets for having taken a plunge into politics and it would not affect her acting career.
''Is it a sin to support a leader or a party,?'' she asked.
