List of three properties in Mumbai sent to Pak HC for Consulate
New Delhi, May 23 (UNI) The External Affairs Ministry has received a list of three properties from the Maharashtra Government for possible Pakistani Consulate in Mumbai and has in turn sent the list to the country's High Commission in New Delhi, official sources said here today.
A reply is awaited from the Pakistan High Commission.
The opening of Consulates in Mumbai and Karachi is hanging fire since Pakistan has not been able to acquire land in Mumbai. India is ready to open its Consulate in Karachi and is awaiting permission from Islamabad.
The sources said the Ministry had, through the state governent, managed two premises and had identified land which could be given to Pakistan for the purpose.
However, residents raised various objections and the proposal had to be shelved.
''We had asked the Maharashtra government for help which has sent a letter to us listing three properties. We have conveyed it to the Pakistan High Commission and are awaiting a reponse,'' the sources said adding tat India was keen to open its Consulate in Karachi.
