It was not Pak flag, says Kurukshetra DC
Kurukshetra, May 23 (UNI) A green flag bearing a crescent moon and a star, which created a flutter at a function in a local school here recently, was not the Pakistani national flag, the Kurukshetra district administration clarified today.
''It was a case of mistaken identity,'' said Deputy Commissioner T K Sharma who had ordered an inquiry to find out the truth of the controversial flag that was spotted among several other colourful flags at a fuction organised in the school to felicitate Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee Working president Ram Prakash on Saturday.
One of the flags was made of green cloth bearing a crescent moon and a star which was presumed as Pakistani flag by some persons there and therefore a probe was ordered, the DC said.
Mr Sharma said the inquiry was conducted at the levels of district administration as well as the police administration.
Both inquiries confirmed that it was not a Pakistani national flag.
The inquiries concluded that the cloth, which made the flag, was probably taken from the Nau-Gajaa Pir near Shahabad in the district or from some other religious Muslim place for making colourful welcome flags in the school, Mr Sharma said.
The probe, he said, revealed that the shape of the controversial flag was not proportionate to the recommended ratio of length and breadth (2:3) of the Pakistani flag. Secondly, the flag did not bear any white strip which was mandatory for a Pakistani flag, he said.
Thirdly, the borders of the flag had been stitched with 'Gotta', a silver colour strip used in religious draperies, the DC added.
