Girls outshine boys yet again in CBSE Class XII results

New Delhi, May 23 (UNI) Girls outshone boys yet again in the Central Board of Secondary Education Class XII exams, securing a pass percentage of 84.41 per cent as against 75.93 pass percentage among boys.

The gap between the pass percentage of boys and girls was the highest in Allahabad at 11.14 per cent, followed by 9.93 per cent in Chandigarh, 8.39 per cent in Delhi, 5.24 per cent in Ajmer, 4.92 per cent in Guwahati and 2.48 per cent in Chennai, CBSE Chairman Ashok Ganguly told newspersons here.

Explaining the trend of girls outscoring boys in the Board exams year after year, Mr Ganguly said,''the only reason for the trend is that girls are more creative, innovative and focussed compared to the boys.'' The overall pass percentage also increased by 1.75 per cent, from 77.80 per cent last year to 79.55 per cent this year.

Chennai topped the pass percentage with 91.46 per cent of the students from the region passing the exams, followed by Ajmer at 86.15 per cent, Chandigarh at 82.15 per cent, Delhi at 79.16 per cent, Allahabad at 75.63 per cent and Guwahati at 60.82 per cent.

61 foreign schools whose results were declared along with the Delhi region had a pass percentage of 93.45 per cent.

The pass percentage of regular students was 82.31 per cent while that of private/patrachar students was 37.53 per cent.

Kendriya Vidyalayas had the best results among schools with a pass percentage of 92.89 per cent (up from 92.47 cer cent last year), followed by Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas with 90.24 per cent and private public schools with 82.35 per cent.

There was a remarkable improvement in the performance of Government schools whose pass percentage stood at 75.23 per cent, up nearly two per cent from 73.31 per cent last year.

''This year the result in the Government schools is the best in the last ten years. This is largely attributable to the steps like computerisation in Government schools and introduction of a system of model test papers for the students,'' Mr Ganguly said.
