Eastern India to get first dry port
Durgapur, May 23 (UNI) Eastern India's first private dry port (inland container depot) would come up in 17 acres of land at Banskopa in Burdwan district with an investment of Rs 60 crore.
The port, sanctioned by the Union Commerce and Industries Ministries for the benefit of exporters and importers, is capable of handling 2,500 containers from the Kolkata and Haldia port.
In the first phase, spread over six acres of land, the initial investment would be Rs 20 crore, Mr Anil Tiwari assistant manager of Allied ICD Services Ltd, entrusted with the project, said.
In the second phase the port would be expanded in over 11 acres of land with an investment of Rs 40 crore, he said.
State Commerce and Industry Minister Nirupam Sen would inaugurate the project on May 25.
