BHU medicos strike continues, ex servicemen, lawyers join cause

Varanasi, May 23 (UNI) The indefinite strike by junior doctors of Sir Sunder Lal Hospital (SSU) in Banaras Hindu University (BHU) continued for the ninth day today against the proposed 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in institutions of higher education.

SSU resident Doctors Association president Mahesh Kate told UNI here that the strike which continued for the ninth day today has paralysed normal fuctioning at the premier government hospital of East Uttar Pradesh.

The relay hunger strike by MBBS students also entered the fourth day today on the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU) campus.

Dr Kate further said that a delegation of Bhutpurva Sainik Sangathan today came out in support of the anti-reservation cause, with the leader of the ex servicemen body, Ram Gopal Mishra pledging full support to the proposed 'Maha Rally' on May 25.

Dr Kate also claimed that members of the Uttar Pradesh and Banaras Bar Council have also assured support to the cause and decided to join the massive march.

Meanwhile, the medicos continued their public mobilisation programme at the Sankatmochan temple here today and also released, balloons bearing anti-reservation slogans.
