'Bank on your postman' scheme launched in AP city

Vijayawada, May 23 (UNI) The Vijayawada Postal Region today launched 'Bank on your postman' scheme here for the first time in the country to help depositers draw money from savings bank account without going to the post office.

Speaking to newsmen after the launch, Post Master General B V Sudhakur said the scheme was intended to serve customers in the region comprising six districts -- Khammam, Krishna, Prakasham, Nellore, Guntur and West Godavari district.

The postman will collect the cheque or withdrawal form from the customer who can withdraw a maximum of Rs 5,000.

Mr Sudhakur said depositors seeking to withdraw money may inform the concerned post office. The facility will be available at all the 32 head post offices, 721 departmental sub post-offices and 3,717 branch post offices in the region.

A nominal service charge of Rs 20 will be collected on each withdrawal and a depositer interested in availing the facility had to register his or her name with the post office having the account.
