Aurangabad Police revives Anti Terrorist Cell

Aurangabad, May 23 (UNI) In the backdrop of seizures of deadly RDX explosives and arrest of half a dozen suspected terorists by the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai police from here, the city police have revived its Anti Terorist Cell (ATC), city police chief Uddhav Kamble today said.

Talking to reporters here this evening, Mr Kamble said the ATC which was set up in the past to exclusively monitor activities of the now banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), will henceforth monitor activities of all organisations indulging in anti-national and anti-social activities.

The ATC will comprise an eight-member team headed by a police sub-inspector. The ATC has been attached to the city crime branch and will report directly to crime branch assistant commissioner of police Eknath Budwant.

The city police has revived the ATC following the seizure of 30 kg of RDX and a large number of weapons including AK-47 rifles after the Mumbai ATS busted a terrorist module at Verul (Ellora) village in the district on May 9. The ATS has arrested at least six suspected terrorists from the city in connection with the seizures.
