Total value of commodity futures at Rs 21.34 lakh crore, up by 274%

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) The total value of commodity futures trade for the year 2005-06 was Rs 21.34 lakh crore as compared to Rs 5.71 lakh crore during the previous year with an increase of 274 per cent.

The volume of trade has also gone up to 6685 lakh tonnes during the current fiscal as comapred to 1942.1 lakh tonnes during last year, an increase of 244 per cent, said, a PIB release here today.

The trading volume and value have increased manifold after the three national level exchanges were set up.

National Multi-Commodity Exchange of India Ahmedabad (NMCE) started trading in November 2002 while Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd, Mumbai (MCX) and National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Ltd, Mumbai (NCDEX) started trading in November 2003.
