Clock is ticking for Vaughan, feels Boycott

London, May 22 (UNI) Even as the ECB is trying to allay fears on injured Michael Vaughan's career, former cricketer Geoffrey Boycott said the England captain's slow pace of recovery is a matter of concern.

''You can put as much spin on it as you want - it's worrying,'' the former England captain wrote in his coloumn for BBC Sports.

''It must be a worry because while you expect selectors to be upbeat and say he (Vaughan) will be all right, time's getting on,'' Boycott said apprently referring to Chairman of selectors David Graveney statement that Vaughan was progressing even though no comeback date had been set.

Vaughan has not played since his knee-injury recurred in England's first warm-up match on their tour of India in February. It was after the Yorkshire batsman was forced to return home before the one-dayers in Pakistan to undergo surgery in December last year.

''He hasn't completed a game since the tour of Pakistan, which is getting on for five or six months now,'' Boycott explained.

The former England opener also wondered why Vaughan had not consulted renowned Colorado surgeon Richard Steadman.

''I'm surprised somebody as intelligent as Michael hasn't been to see Richard Steadman in America,'' he said adding that footballers such as Alan Shearer and Henrik Larsson have turned to the Colorado surgeon.

''So many footballers have been to him -- I'm surprised somebody as intelligent as Michael hasn't done that,'' he said.
