Case against 5 VHP activists withdrawn

Ajmer , May 22 (UNI) A local court has granted relief to five Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists who were accused of possessing tridents under the Indian Arms Act.

The state government has petitioned that case of possessing tridents be withdrawn which was heard in the court of Judicial magistrate (No 3) Rajendra Kumar.

The state government's counsel today petitioned the court to withdraw the case against these five VHP activists namely Janvari Lal, Sarveshwar Agarwal, Dinesh Agarwal, Gopi Kishan and B D Sarawat who were accused under Arms Act. The magistrate agreed to withdraw the case.

A case was lodged against them on April 11, 2003 in Ajmer's Kishanganj police station.

The police had seized 650 tridents from the VHP office earlier.

After BJP came to power in the state in 2003, the ban on tridents was suspended. And now the government counsel has appealed for withdrawal of the case.
