Delhi traders to continue stir on sealing issue
New Delhi, May 21 : Demanding status quo ante, traders of Delhi will continue their agitation against the municipal corporation's sealing and demolition drive, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said today after organising a meeting on the issue.
A 'unanimous resolution' passed at the meeting -- called in the wake of the enactment of The Delhi Laws (Special Provision) Bill, 2006 -- demanded that the Centre and the Delhi Government immediately restore the electricity and water connections disconnected during the drive.
The MCD should ''de-seal the sealed establishments'' in order to restore normal trading activities in Delhi, CAIT said.
A traders' delegation will meet Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit tomorrow to press the demands, CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said.
He said the agitation against sealing and demolitions shall continue till all business establishments as on December 31, 2005, are regularized.
He claimed that traders lost business to the tune of Rs 4000 crore due to the demolition and sealing drive in the capital over the last four months.
Besides Mr Khandelwal, trade leaders from different parts of the capital attended the meeting.
