Special session to discuss office of profit
Imphal, May 20: A special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly has been summoned on May 26 to discuss the issue of office of profit.
The Assembly Secretariat here said in a statement that the session would be of two days as decided by the Business Advisory committee.
The Manipur Legislature (Removal of Disqualification ) 4th Amendment Bill, 2006 would be introduced on May 26, the Assembly Secretariat informed.
The office of profit issue assumed importance in the state after the opposition party BJP demanded MLAs holding office of profit to be disqualified.
After the reduction in ministry size, the Ibobi government appointed Congress MLAs as Chairmen of various state owned public sector units.
The BJP demanded that all the MLAs holding office of profit should resign immediately.
The Election Commission of India has also sought explanation from the state government on the issue of office of profit.
Congress MLA Bijoy Koijam has left for New Delhi to depose before Election Commission and other MLAs may also leave for New Delhi tomorrow.
The other MLAs charged of holding office of profit were N Biren, K Ranjit, Y Mani, N Loken and Health Minister D K Korunthang.
