PM launches JNNURM scheme in Vizag, addresses public meeting
Visakhapatnam, May 20 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today launched the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme at a function in the Indira Priyadarshini Municipal Corporation stadium here.
Addressing a public meeting at the stadium, he said Rs 98 crore has been sanctioned in the first phase under the scheme to take up various development projects in the city.
He said Visakhapatnam was one of the 63 cities identified under the scheme.
Dr Singh also visited the stalls of the DWCRA sanghams put up at the stadium and interacted with the women.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, said Visakhapatnam was registering a tremendous growth on all fronts and the State had become one of the most favoured destination for IT industries.
Union Minister of State for Mines T Subbirami Reddy and several state Ministers, MPs, and MLAs spoke at the meeting.
