Murmu urge Centre to safegurad Adivasis in Nepal

Jamshedpur, May 20 (UNI) Convenor of Adivasi Adhikar Morcha (AAM) Salkhan Murmu today urged the Centre to provide constitutional safeguard to the tribes of Nepal on the line of Indian constitution.

In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the tribal leader from Jharkhand asked the government to persuade its Nepalese counterpart to adopt the provisions mentioned in the Indian constituent Assembly as India too got rid off dynastic rule and earned the status of a democratic and secular nation.

He said the constitutional provisions of India provide protection of the tribals, minorities and the weaker sections of the society.

''With the emergence of democracy in Nepal, constituent Assembly was also formed in that country and if they incorporate the provisions of Indian Constitution, large number of tribal population, particularly Santhals of Indian origin and other weaker sections residing in Nepal would benifit from it,'' Mr Murmu opined.

Mr Murmu also sought permission from the Centre to visit Nepal next month along with a delegation to oversee the constituent Assembly of the tiny Himalayan state and to interact with the tribals of Nepal.

He hoped that the Nepal government would welcome the move of the Indian government in this regard.
