Reservation: medical services hit in North West
Chandigarh, May 20 : Medical services in majority of government and private medical colleges in Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory of Chandigarh were hit as the strike by resident doctors, interns and medical students in protest against the reservation for OBCs entered sixth day today.
Medical services were affected in nearly all the hospitals and private clinics in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali in response to a call given by Indian Medical Association to shut OPDs.
The OPD at the prestigious PGIMER and Government Medical College and Hospital too remained closed. Resident doctors of PGI run parallel OPD in tents and examined nearly 380 patients.
In Amritsar, medical services at the Guru Nanak Hospital, SGPC run Guru Ram Dass Institute of Medical Services and Research and other medical institutions were affected due to the ongoing strike.
Medical services at Dayanand Medical College (DMC), Lord Mahavira Homeopathy Institute and Baba Jaswant Singh Dental College in Ludhiana were hit as students and doctors staged a dharna.
However, Christian Medical College (CMC) continued to function normally.
At PGIMS, Rohtak agitating doctors and students formed a human chain.
The emergency and OPD services were hit in the two government hospitals in Patiala due to the strike.
