India to field teams in a spate of international events

Chennai, May 20: The Laser Class Association of India (LCAI) will send an eight-member team to participate in the Asia Pacific Laser competition to be held at Singapore from June 9 to 13, according to LCAI Secretary Col A G Shirodkar.

Mr Shirodkar, told UNI here that the LCAI was sending another six member team to Kiel in Germany to take part in the European laser cup event, to be held from June 15 to July 15.

He said LCAI would also send a six member team to Austria to participate in the pre- Olympic event from July 25 to 29.

A three member team would also be sent to Laswer Radial World event to be held at Los Angeles, California in US from July 20 to August 4 and a six-member team for the Pre-Olympic event to be held in China from August 1 to August 10.

He said a three-member Indian team will also participate in the 13th Senior World Laser championships to be held in Korea from September 13 to 20.

For the 31st Volvo youth sailing ISAF world Championship-2006 to be held at Waymouth and Portland at Great Britain from July 12 to 21, the LCAI would select the Indian team from the six-day third Laser Coastal National Sailing Championships commencing here today.

He said the Indian contingents for all these international events would take part in two categories namely Laser radial and Laser standard and added that the LCAI had already completed a few selection trials for all these international events.

Asserting that LCAI would make its attempt to include the Laser 4.7 category in the Asian Games, he said the trials for selecting the Indian team for the Asian Games at Doha in Qatar would be held in Mumbai in August or September.
