If only Rajiv had spent the night at Vizag: PM

Visakhapatnam, May 20 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today recalled how former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi addressed his last meeting here on May 21, 1991 and said if only he had spent the night at the port city, a great tragedy would have been averted.

Addressing a meeting after laying the foundation stone for the expansion of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, he said had Rajiv Gandhi stayed back for the day in Visakhapatnam, the history of modern India would have been different.

Condemning acts of violence, the Prime Minister said India should be free from war and exploitation.

Rajiv left from here for Sriperumbudur, where he was assassinated.
