Chawla hopeful to be part of Test squad for WI tour

Dehra Dun, May 20 (UNI) A none-too-impressive debut against England notwithstanding, teenage leg spin prodigy Piyush Chawla today expressed hope to be part of Indian cricket squad for the four-Test series againt the West Indies beginning June 2.

''As the team for the Tests is yet to be decided, I am hopeful of finding a place in the Team India ranks,'' said Chawla, who is in Dehra Dun to represent the UP Cricket Association in ongoing 24th All India Uttaranchal Gold Cup Cricket Tournament.

The 18-year-old impressed with his performance in the U-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka before then played his debut match against England this March. He opened his account by taking the wicket of Andrew Flintoff.

On his willow wielding ability, Chawla said he was capable of batting better than what he had been performing so far.

The teenager also praised the role of National Cricket Academy, Bangalore in nurturing and grooming talents.

''The NCA is grooming cricketers from remote areas with a positive result and many hidden talents have been discovered,'' he said.
