All graveyards, idgahs, mosques to be recorded in UP
Lucknow, May 20 (UNI) In view of the law and order problem created in several parts of Uttar Pradesh, the state government has directed all the districts to immediately record land alongwith mapping of all graveyards, idgahs and mosques in UP.
State revenue minister Ambika Choudhury said there were reports of illegal grabbing of graveyards leading to law and order problems in several districts including Bijnore, Mau, Meerut, Rampur and Aligarh.
Addressing a news conference Mr Choudhury said as per the government order dated May 17 the, concerned authorities have been asked to record the actual status of these lands in revenue record alongwith mapping.
It has come to the knowledge of the government that there are several graveyards, Idgahs and mosques, which are yet to be recorded with the revenue department, he said here.
The he said the issue was taken up after 50 members of the assembly representing different parties and communities demanded such an action.
He said a drive would be launched to register the land records of graveyards, idgahs and mosques.
To a qhetion whether such a drive was only for the graveyards, idgahs and mosques, Mr Choudhury said the government might take similar action in cases of temples and gurduwaras if complaints were received.
