AGP welcomes govt decision to release detained ULFA cadres
Guwahati, May 20 (UNI) Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today welcomed the state government's decision to release all detained United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) activists.
Talking to newsmen here today, AGP President Brindaban Goswami further urged the Centre to take firm steps to solve the insurgency problem in the state in a peaceful manner. He said that his party would cooperate with the government in its bid to establish permanent peace through discussions.
The AGP reiterated its appeal to the government to take firm steps to implement the Asom Accord. Mr Goswami requested the Centre to solve the foreigners issue permanently, updating the National Registrar of Citizenship of 1951. The names of foreigners, who entered the state prior to 25th March, 1971 should only be entered in the National Registrar of Citizenship, he said.
Mr Goswami refused to comment to a question if the AGP is ready to merge with the Asom Gana Parishad (Progressive) led by former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.
