UPA in power: 13 Ministers to present report cards
New Delhi, May 19: Thirteen senior Ministers of Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) coalition Government will make a presentation with their report cards on their performance before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to mark the completion of two years of its existence here on Monday.
Calling it as a unique practice, started last year, Congress Spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said this practice had now become more elaborate. ''This is a salutary and welcome practice as it underlines a key aspect of the Government, that is transparency and accountability.'' Mr Singhvi told reporters here that this practice of making presentation with the report card showed the Government's willingness to subject itself to the scrutiny of the people on its performance.
A similar exercise would be undertaken in respect of the endeavours of the Union Government made in each State by presenting reports of Government for different States later in Hindi, English and other regional languages, which would be distributed.
This exercise would provide a full basis for scrutiny of different measures taken by the UPA Government, like Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Bharat Nirman Yojana, Urban Renewal Mission, Mr Singhvi said.
The UPA MPs have been invited to attend the function to be held at the Prime Minister's residence on Monday evening, he said.
