TN Cong elects CLP leader
Chennai, May 19: The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today elected Mr D Sudharsanam as its leader but deferred the election of deputy leader and other office bearers for a week.
The CLP, which met at TNCC headquarters Sathyamurthy Bhavan here at 0700 hrs amid much expectation among many eyeing for key posts in the party, could only arrive at a consensus on electing Mr Sudharsanam as the CLP Leader.
AICC Special Invitee Veerappan Moily, in-charge of party affairs in the state, who chaired the meeting, told newspersons the names of Deputy Leader of the CLP and other functionaries would be finalised in a week after consultation with all the newly-elected members.
Mr Sudharsanam, who was appointed as the Pro-tem speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, administered oath of office to the newly-elected MLAs, represents the Poonamallee Assembly constituency.
He was elected to the House for the fouth time. Earlier, he was elected twice from Poonamallee and once from Tiruvallur.
