Storms and squall kill seven people in Bengal
Malda, May 19 (UNI) At least seven people were killed and more than 1000 rendered homeless when a squall and lightning struck in different parts of West Bengal this evening.
Official sources said four people were killed and more than 100 houses razed to the ground when squalls lashed at Manickchak in Malda district of North Bengal.
In the neighbouring North Dinajpur district, two people including a girl died on the spot when lightning struck them at Karandhighi.
Five others also received burn injuries by lightning at Itahar and Raigunge in the same district.
Another person died for the same cause at Alipurduar in Jalpaiguri district of North Bengal.
