Star cricket match in the city on June 11

Vijayawada, May 19 (UNI) The city will host a cricket match between Tollywood stars and Indian cricketers at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium here on June 11.

Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Chairman M S Raj Thakur told reporters here last evening that the Andhra Pradesh Sports Foundation (APSF) and the Tollywood Cricket Association were jointly organising the match.

Thakur said former and present members of the Indian cricket team like Mohd Azharuddin, K Srikanth, Murali Karthik, Laxmipathi Balaji, J P Yadav, Hemant Badani and M S K Prasad would enthral the audience with their pyrotechnics.

He said the event was the initiative of APSF, an non-governmental organisation (NGO), floated to develop sports among youngsters and to help in sprucing up sports infrastructure.

The APSF was keen on using sports and allied activities to campaign for social causes like the fight against AIDs and lifestyle diseases like diabetes, he said and added that the foundation had received donations worth Rs 65 lakh from different corporate bodies and individuals including some non-resident Indians.

The earnings from the cricket match would go to the corpus of the foundation, he said.
