Sensex swings 694 points in trade so far

Mumbai, May 19: The markets remained highly volatile a day after the big fall by 826 points and the BSE Sensex has swung 694 points in the trade so far this afternoon.

Earlier the BSE Sensex this morning touched a low of 11,003.56 after opening 158 points up at 11,549.67 marking an intra-day fall of 546 points.

However, the 30 share sensitive index recovered losses compleletly rose up to 11,697 points showing an intra-day swing of 694 points from day's low of 11,003 points by afternoon.

Sensex was trading flat at 11,397 points around 1250 hrs as compared to the last close of 11,391 points but the morning proceedings were quite volatile.

The National Stock Exchange(NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index was flat too at 3,389.25 points as compared to the last clos of 3388.90 points around 1250 hrs.

The 50 share National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index too dipped to a low of 3,258.90 losing 130 points in the morning but recovered losses completely touching a high of 3,493 showing a swing of 235 points in the day's trade so far.

The weaker global markets continued to hurt the Indian markets with the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) closing 0.62 per cent lower; Nasdaq was down by 0.70 per cent and Dow Jones Industrial Average was down by 0.69 per cent; Only the Japanese Nikkei was up by 45 per cent.

The big losers on the Sensex this afternoon were BHEL down by 4.88 per cent; Cipla 4.75 per cent; Tisco was down by 2.92 per cent; Dr Reddy's Lab was down by 2.75 per cent, Bajaj Auto was down by 1.76 per cent and Satyam Computers was down by 2.31 per cent.

The support for Sensex came from Reliance Industries which was up by 2.12 per cent; Hindalco was up by 2.89 per cent; Maruti also gained by 2.02 per cent; Reliance Energy on the other hand was up by 1.40 per cent and Gujarat Ambuja showed a gain of 1.42 per cent.
