Resident doctors in Jaipur intensify stir
Jaipur, May 19 (UNI) The resident doctors and medical students today held a rally and formed a human chain at the city centre, further intensifying their stir against reservation.
About 150 resident doctors of Sawai Mansingh Hospital (SMS), J K Lone hospital, Janan and Mahila Chikitsalaya are already on indefinite strike from yesterday.
Today the junior and senior residents held a protest rally, marching from the PG hostel till Statue Circle, where they formed a human chain.
The resident doctors under the banner 'Youth for Equality', would start a door-to-door campaign from today in various localities of the city like Bani Park, Raja Park, Malviya Nagar etc, explaining people the reasons behind their protests against the proposed 27 per cent quota in institutes of higher education.
''The door-to-door campaign will continue and will be carried on between 5-8 pm in the evening everyday,'' informed Dr Rashhin Kataria, president of Youth for Equality, Jaipur Chapter.
Dr Kataria also said they would burn Union Human resource Minister Arjun Singh in effigy near the Resident Doctors hostel this evening.
A 10-member doctors team will proceed to Delhi tomorrow to take part in the Maha Rally in the capital.
Admitting that the strike has affected the hospital services and patients are suffering, neurosurgeon Dr Kataraia said, ''Those doctors who are on duty have been benefitted by the reservation policy.'' ''Some of my colleagues from backward classes are supporting us and have joined the agitation. Common people are with us,'' he added.
