Passenger bares and freight charges not to be increased now: Lalu
Kanpur, May 19 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad said here today that passenger bares and freight charges will not be increased in the near future as the railways has earned a record profit during the last financial year.
Addresing the Cawnpur Kapada Committee members here Mr Prasad said it was due to increasd profits that one rupee had been reduced from passenger fares and that his ministry would take utmost care not to increase passenger and freight charges in the near future.
He said the Railways had fixed a target of Rs 20000 crores profit in the current financial year and was quite sure the target would be achieved without any problems.
He said a total of 11000 passenger, express and goods trains ply everyday. The third line between Howrah and New Delhi and Mumbai- Delhi would be functional soon through which only goods trains would run to expedite freight traffic.
Mr Prasad assured the business community their demands would be fulfilled and railway will transport goods, through containers, all over the country.
The Cawnpur Kapada Committee today honoured Mr Prasad and union Minister of state for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal in the function.
