Over 500 participants to compete in state kickboxing meet
Pune, May 19 (UNI) A record number of over 500 entries have been confirmed from all over Maharashtra in the state kickboxing championship to be held at Shivaji Vyayam Mandal ground here from May 20 to 21.
Briefing reporters here today, Additional Director General of Police (Crime) Jayant Umranikar said that the meet, hosted by the Maharashtra Kickboxing Association (MKA), assumes importance as it would serve as the barometer to select the Maharashtra squad for the upcoming national kickboxing championship to be held in Punjab from June 9 to 11.
Mr Umranikar, also the president of the (MKA), said the competitions will be held in sub-junior, junior and senior age groups. It has been sponsored by noted city industrialist Pravin Lunkad of Pravin Agro Industries.
The championship will be formally inaugurated by commandant 512 Army Base Workshop Brig P R Datta-Roy, while Maharashtra Olympic Association Secretary General Balasaheb Landge will preside over the function, he added.
