NHRC seeks report from Delhi Govt on 55 child labourers
New Delhi, May 19 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today sought a factual report from the Delhi Government about 55 child labourers, rescued in the national Capital, within two weeks.
The Commission directed media reports about the January incident be sent to Delhi's Chief Secretary, Labour Secretary and Police Commissioner for the report.
It also asked the Delhi Government to inform it about the steps taken to rehabilitate the rescued children, at present lodged in Ashraya Kendra here.
''If the reports are found true they raise the issue of Bonded Child labour, which is the worst affront to human dignity and constitutes an offence under the Bonded Labour ACT,'' it said.
About 55 child labourers, belonging to Bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, were rescued from embroidery units in South Delhi by police and activists of Bonded Labour Liberation Front.
