Mizoram Youth Congress angry over govt lapse

Aizawl, May 19 (UNI) While the state government is gearing up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Mizoram peace accord, Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress Committee today accused the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) of neglecting the most important persons behind the peace accord.

Youth Congress President MLA Eodintlunga in a meeting today expressed disappointment over state Congress President Lal Thanhawla, who had 'played one of the most important roles for the historic peace accord, being excluded in the programmes for the peace day observance'.

The main programme to be held at Vanapa hall here on June 30 has included Governor A R Hohli, Zoramchanga, church and various NGO leaders to deliver speeches.

Lal Thanhawla was the chief minister of Mizoram, when the Laldenga-led MNF and the Centre inked the Mizoram peace accord on June 30, 1986, and had to surrender the CM's seat, the youth leader said adding ''we are shocked to learn that the MNF government, in its preparations to celebrate the peace accord, has totally forgotten Congress leaders, who played crucial roles towards having peace in the state.'' ''Have the MNF leaders forgotten how much help they had received from Congress leaders during the insurgency period'', Zodintlunga questioned adding ''do they not remember who bailed out MNF leaders from Tihar jail during that time''.

The youth Congress leader further asked the MNF to apoligise to the Mizo people for bringing Mizoram into 20 years of insurgency and rededicate themselves for the state on the occasion of the peace day anniversary.
