Mizoram govt to keep stricter vigil on homes

Aizawl, May 19 : The state government today has announced its intention to keep a tight watch on homes and orphanages in the state run by voluntary organisations.

In a one-day workshop for recognised children's home held here under the aegis of the social welfare department's adoption cell, management board members of the homes and orphanages across the state were informed by the organisers to strictly abide by the rules and regulations that had been established by the state government for running these homes.

"Although we have had the rules in force for more than a year, there has been no awareness drive till now'', Laldikkimi, nodel officer of social welfare department said adding ''from now onwards government would not only keep strict vigil on these homes but also it would see to that the law violaters are punished''.

She also explained that these homes and institutes need to have a uniform rules to take care of children placed in their care.

''If any home or orphanage is found erring after the awareness drive, necessary actions would be taken against them'', she warned.

The Mizoram government had, in 2003, made up rules for the long-winded name of 'rules and regulations made by the board of control for supervision and control of homes for its administgration and to enable to perform its function in the state under the orphanage and other charitable homes (supervision and control) act, 1960 and Mizoram rules 2003' based on this 1960 act of Parliament.
