AMSTERDAM, May 19 (Reuters) Mittal Steel's shares were suspended on Friday pending an announcement from the company, bourse operator Euronext said, adding that any errant trades that had gone through would be cancelled.

The trades put Mittal sharply down by 6.75 percent at 25.70 euros in the first few minutes of trade after the market opened at 0700 GMT.

''Trading has been suspended because we are awaiting a press release from Mittal,'' a spokesman for Euronext in Amsterdam said. ''We decided to suspend trading this morning... there was a short time while we were deciding when some trades went through.

Those trades will be cancelled.'' Mittal's bankers are mulling options to increase the company's hostile bid for rival Arcelor by 3 billion euros ($3.84 billion), the Financial Times reported.
