Ministerial team on reservation to submit report tomorrow

New Delhi, May 19 (UNI) The four-member ministerial team, constituted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh two days ago to finalise the steps for ensuring OBC quota in institutions of higher learning, will submit its report tomorrow.

A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), chaired by Dr Singh, discussed the OBC quota issue, in the context of the raging agitation by medical students across the country.

''The report will be submitted tomorrow morning,'' Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who heads the team consisting of HRD Minister Arjun Singh, Law Minister H R Bharadwaj and Finance Minister P Chidambaram, told mediapersons after the CCPA meeting.

Besides weighing various options, including increasing the number of seats in premier institutions such as IIMs and IITs to protect the interests of all sections of society, the ministerial panel is also expected to suggest whether to resort to the ordinance route to provide for reservation from the 2006-07 academic year.
