Masses, executive taking refuge in judiciary: CJ Pattnaik
Jabalpur, May 19 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Anang Kumar Pattnaik has said the responsibility of judges and advocates has increased as a direct consequence of the rising instances of public and the executive taking refuge in the judiciary for resolution of most of their problems.
''The rising expectation from the judiciary is opening a golden future for advocates,'' he said here last evening while addressing a High Court Bar Association Federation function in honour of newly-appointed additional judges Sushma Srivastava and Suresh Chandra Sinha.
The programme was presided over by Justice Deepak Mishra. Among those present were Federation Chairman Adarsh Muni Trivedi, his deputy Ashish Pathak, secretaries Anil Khare, Karansingh Thakur and District Bar Association Chairman R K Singh.
''Profound contemplation ought to take place on advocates' tendency to seek adjournments from the bench without any special reason. I have ayed an Association proposal for a Golden Jubilee Advocates Building in the premises of the High Court here,'' Chief Justice Pattnaik added.
Following a Supreme Court initiative, over the past few years the Centre and state government began doling out special grants, on 50-50 basis, for court buildings.
''An action plan will be formulated for disposing of cases pending in the High Court. However, no scheme is in place for tackling pending cases during the summer vacation,'' he told UNI.
''An ultramodern, state-level law research library will be set up here soon. Local MP Rakesh Singh has provided Rs 2 lakh from the MPLADS fund for the purpose,'' said Mr Trivedi.
