Home Minister asked to look into Hazrat Gunj issue
New Delhi, May 19 (UNI) Home Minister Shivraj Patil was today asked in the Lok Sabha to look into the serious problem arising from a Supreme Court order which would result in evacuation of the Uttar Pradesh Raj Bhavan and other areas of Hazrat Gunj in Lucknow.
Mr Mohan Singh, who was presiding over the House, issued the instructions after Mr Santosh Gangwar (BJP) had raised the issue during zero hour.
Mr Gangwar said the government had taken over the Mahmoodabad state property in 1950 after the then King of the region had left for Pakistan in the wake of the partition in 1947.
The Supreme Court had now ordered that the property be returned to the claimants as the government had not presented the facts before the court, the member said.
Thousands of people would be rendered homeless if the judicial order was implemented, he said and urged the government to file a review petition with the apex court.
