From age to attire, Rupjyoti stands out
Guwahati, May 19 (UNI) He stood out initially for his age, but today his attire drew him crowds.
Indian politics, notorious for aged leaders, has seen the entry of fresh faces in a significant number in the last Lok Sabha polls.
Asom polls this year also had at least one such candidate whose young age drew all attention. The 27-year-old Rupjyoti Kurmi had created history when he became the youngest person to be elected to Asom Assembly.
In today's swearing-in ceremony, he was the cynosure of all eyes for wearing a traditional dhoti and kurta. With a big 'chandan tika' on his forehead and in his traditional dress, Mr Kurmi went about greeting people at the fuction.
He has been elected from Mariani constituency in Upper Asom, a seat previously represented by his mother, late Rupam Kurmi, who was also a minister in the state.
