FIR against court official in Uphaar tragedy filed
New Delhi, May 19 (UNI) On the direction of the Delhi High Court, the Delhi Police has filed an FIR against a dismissed District Courts official and others for allegedly tampering with evidence from the court records of the Uphaar fire tragedy on June 13, 1997, which left 59 dead and more than 100 injured.
It is alleged that Ahalmad (Record keeper) Dinesh Chander Sharma had tampered with the documents.
A probe instituted by the District Court had found him guilty of tempering and destroying some vital documents relating to the ownership of the Uphaar cinema.
Justice R C Jain had ordered for institution of the inquiry by an ACP rank official.
The Association of the Victims of Uphar Tragedy (AVUT), which is pursuing the case against the Ansals, had lodged the complaint alleging that the documents were destroyed at the behest of Uphaar cinema owner Sushil Ansal.
The trial Court had framed charges against 16 accused, including proprietors of Ansals properties Sushil Ansal and Gopal Ansal, for their alleged involvement in the Uphaar fire tragedy on June 13, 1997 which left 59 dead and more than 100 injured.
The other accused in the case include PWD engineer S N Dandona, cinema hall director R M Puri, cinema hall managers K L Malhotra, R K Sharma, N S Chopra and Ajit Chaudhary, DVB officials A K Gera, B M Satija and Beer Singh, MCD officials N D Tiwari and Shyam Sunder Sharma, Delhi Fire Service officials H S Panwar and Surinder Dutt, besides balcony usher Manmohan Unniyal.
