Essar Steel commissions new steel caster in Hazira plant

Surat, May 19 (UNI) The Essar Steel has commissioned the country's most modern steel caster at its Hazira plant.

According to Essar release here yesterday, the new caster, which has an annual production capacity of 1.8 million tonnes, will augment the company's annual capacity to 4.6 million tonnes. With this, the steel plant's capacity will be expanded from 2.4 mmtpa to 4.6 mmtpa.

The caster has been designed by SMC-Demag, who are a world renowned equipment supplier in the field.

The caster is designed to cast the slabs upto 2000 mm width, 220/260 thickness and cut length from 4.6 meters to 10.2 meters.

With the commissisoning of the new caster (which is the third one in the plant), Essar Steel will be able to offer more sophisticated grades of steel, required for specialised requirements, the release added.
