Employees in India take Anti-Terrorism pledge
New Delhi, May 19: Employees in Government offices, public sector undertakings and other public institutions throughout the country took pledge today in connection with the Anti-Terrorism Day.
Home Minister Shivraj Patil administered the oath to the officers and staff of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the North Block lawns here.
Every year, May 21 is observed as Anti-Terrorism Day. This year 21 May falls on Sunday, a holiday for Central Government offices, To avoid inconvenience to the employees, it was decided that the pledge-taking ceremony in the offices of the Central Government may be held today.
The objective behind observance of Anti-Terrorism Day is to wean away the youth from terrorism and cult of violence by highlighting the sufferings of common people and showing how it is prejudicial to national interest.
The objective is achieved and through activities like pledge-taking, organisation of debates/discussions in schools, colleges and universities, holding of symposia/seminars, lectures, etc. on the dangers of terrorism and violence.
