Doctors take out rally, submit memorandum
Surat, May 19 (UNI) Junior doctors of Government Medical College (GMC) here today took out a silent rally to the Collectorate and Police Commissioner's office and submitted a memorandum urging the Central Government to find a solution to the quota problem.
Interns from both the GMC and Surat Municipal Institute for Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) also organised a signature campaign in the city.
''We have organised small groups and collected signatures from the public in support of our demands,'' said Rajiv Kharwar, president of the Intern Medical Student Association, GMC.
The agitation will continue tomorrow also, he added.
Meanwhile, GMC hospital medical superintendent M K Wadel told UNI this evening that the ongoing agitation had not affected the services of hospital anyway.
''Today we received 1,440 patients in outpatient section and conducted 72 surgeries,'' he said.
Sources in the hospital said that tutors and assistant professors in the hospital offered their services to meet the needs.
SMIMER hospital sources said that the functioning of the hospital was normal.
