DIG Karnajit to inquire into killing of girl by police

Imphal, May 19 (UNI) M Karnajit, DIG of Manipur Police will carry out investigations into the alleged killing of a 19-year old girl by Bishenpur police on May 9 last.

The girl Chuireiwon Shithundang of Ukhrul was killed at Thoubal, by Bishenpur police and was stated to be a cadre of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL). Another man, Th Ramananda was also injured in the firing.

The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong had contended that the girl was killed in a fake encounter and demanded an inquiry. The DIG has been asked to inquire into the antecedents of the girl killed and to suggest remedial measures to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future.

The Working Committee of the Apunba Lup (WCAL) had also called a general strike in Manipur earlier to protest the killing of the girl and all stir were suspended after the government assured to order an inquiry to be completed within 15 days.
