Dalit women staged demonstration for lack of water supply

Jeypore, May 19 (UNI) Hundreds of Dalit women of Gapabandhu Nagar in the town today staged demonstration with empty pots before the Sub- Collector's house to voice their anguish for drinking water.

About 300 Dalit families of the area were facing acute water crisi for the past three months. Most of them could not take bath for the last 10 days following.

They travel nearly five kilometers to the nearest canal to fetch drinking water.

They have drawn attention of the local authority as well.

The women then decided to stage a protest against the government and dumped all pots of the locality before the Sub-Collector's office.

The Public Health Department officials rushed to the area and assured the demonstrators to provide water through tankers and dig tubewells in the locality.
