Dacoit slain; abductee freed

Bhopal, May 19 (UNI) A dacoit was shot dead during an encounter in Chhatarpur district and an abductee rescued from a gang's clutches last night, a Police Headquarters source said today.

A cordon was set up following a tip-off that the gang was hiding in Hada Charai forests near Khiria village. The bandits opened fire on the police, who retaliated killing Bhukkhi alias Bhookha, who hailed from Damoh district's Sukha village.

About half-a-dozen dacoits managed to flee under cover of darkness. The freed person was Ramesh Jain who was abducted on May 12 from Sagar district's Kadwa village.
