College girl commits suicide following rape in Almora

Dehra Dun, May 19 (UNI) A college girl was today found dead and a suicide note recovered said she took the step following an alleged rape in Almora district, police said.

The police said the body of Mamta Bisht (20), a student of BA first year in Arya Kanya College, Almora was discovered in the morning by the college 'chowkidar' in the bathroom of old building adjacent to the institution.

Police recovered a sucide note, a bottle of poison and a knife near her body. The note, addressed to her father, stated that she had been raped by Jeevan Singh Bisht, an ITI student, from her village Tallanali.

Jeevan Singh has been arrested, and the body has been sent for autopsy.

Mamta was staying with her sister in the college hostel and last night left her room, saying she was going to buy vegetables, police said.
