CM visits relocation site for displaced JJ dwellers
New Delhi, May 19 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today visited a temporary relocation camp site for displaced shanty dwellers at Savda Ghevra in North Delhi.
She instructed all the agencies concerned to intensify their efforts relating to provision of civic amenities in an area of around 260 acres where displaced JJ dwellers were to be relocated by providing them plots as per the existing policy.
Ms Dikshit said efforts would be made on a war-footing to relocate displaced families before the onset of monsoon.
She would again visit the relocation site to review the arrangements in next few days.
The Delhi Jal Board had been instructed to provide tankers for supplying drinking water to start with and extend the pipeline from Bawana Plant in due course.
Municipal Corporation of Delhi's Slum and JJ Department had initiated action to urgently dig seven tube-wells for making available water for use other than drinking purposes. The department would also install ROs at tube-wells to supplement drinking water supply.
NDPL had been instructed to install solar lights in the locality within a few days where thousands of JJ dweller families were to be relocated. Apart from this flood-lights would also be installed.
DTC had been instructed to augment its bus service.
The Health Department would soon start dispensaries to provide healthcare.
Mobile Public toilets had already been positioned at the site of relocation.
Earlier, after inspecting the camp site, Delhi Urban Development Minister A K Walia had directed Slum and JJ Department to adopt a humane approach in developing the transit camp site.
He expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of development work at the campsite, which was yet to be even properly leveled.
He was surprised to see that no arrangement of water and electric supply had yet been ensured as per decisions of the Delhi Cabinet.
The construction of roads and lanes was also yet to start.
