Call for unity to fight terror

Hyderabad, May 19 : A delegation of British Muslims, led by Lord Adam Patel, has said the United Kingdom (UK) was shaken by the 7/7 terror attacks and the need of the hour was to fight such acts collectively by people of various faiths.

Interacting with a cross section of people here during a meeting organised by Forum For Equity and Justice, Lord Patel said while they were against UK's foreign policy, they were proud to be British Muslims.

''When British troops invaded Iraq, 140 MPs and 90 per cent of people in UK opposed it. Already the ratings of UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President George Bush have been on the decline in the recent past,'' members of the delegation claimed.

To a question on hate campaign against Muslims by the West, the delegation said after 7/7 attacks in UK, everybody was shocked.

The attacks were carried out irrespective of caste or religion. In this scenario, such acts should be condemned by every section of the society.

The delegation was touring the world to meet people and exchange views to tackle such concerns unitedly, he added.

They said only three per cent of UK's 60 million population comprised Muslims who enjoyed freedom of speech and religion.
