BJP announces candidates for June one council polls

Mumbai, May 19 (UNI) Maharashtra BJP today announced the candidature of Pasha Patel and Keshavrao Mankar for the June one bennial elections to the Legislative council from the Legislative assembly constituency.

The two have been nominated as the candidates to fill in for the retiring members Kanta Nalawde and Shantaram Karmalkar. Biennial elections will be held for 11 council seats which will be elected by the 289 member Legislative assembly.

The names of Mr Patel and Mr Mankar were announced by State unit chief Nitin Gadkari after a nod from the central election committee of the BJP.

Currently, Mr Patel is the general secretary of the state BJP.

Patel joined the party in 2000 and was made the state unit vice president. Since 2003, he is working as the party's state unit general secretary. Prior to that, he was Shetkari Sanghatna's state unit chief and general secretary of Swatantra Bharat Party. Patel heads the Baliraja agro-process pvt ltd, Baliraja co-operative poultry society, Baliraja agro services society and was the director of Maharashtra state poultry Mahasangh.

Keshavrao Mankar presently heads the party in the Gondia Zilla Parishad. He is also the member of Amgaon agriculture produce committee. He is associated with Sangh parivar and is the party's vice chairman of the district unit. Keshavrao is the son of Laxmanrao Mankar who has played a major role in expanding the base of BJP in Vidarbha. Mankar is chairman of the Bhavbhuti educational instiution.
